Community Involvement:

Partnering With the Community

San Francisco Foliage is proud to make its home in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco. Bayview-Hunters Point is a community with a rich history of struggle and achievement but currently faces many persistent challenges.

San Francisco Foliage considers being a good neighbor central to its corporate goals. We prioritize hiring residents in our greenhouse. In a difficult economy, it is important to provide decent paying jobs to our neighbors.

In 2009, we created our community development organization Careers in Horticulture. Careers in Horticulture aims to be the missing link between the aspirations of Bayview residents for employment and the career-paths greenhouse and horticultural enterprises have to offer. Careers in Horticulture offers residents inspiration and career training and offers employers a resource for trained employees.

In 2010, Careers in Horticulture hosted first Interior Landscape Training course. Over a dozen residents learned the basics of the interior landscape business from qualified industry professionals.

In 2011, we offered our first after school internship for youth. Local kids received valuable job experience along with their first paycheck - and one young woman went on to full-time employment with us.

In 2012, we hired our first employee dedicated to Community Relations. We look forward to keeping you up to date as our social programming expands to provide new benefit to our home community.

By doing business with San Francisco Foliage, you are participating in a partnership with our community. Thank you!

Careers in Horticulture

Careers in Horticulture, an initiative of San Francisco Foliage, emerged from tenants weekly discussion group.

CiH has an ambitious agenda, it includes amelioration of the divergent interests of stakeholders, youth programs, job training, job placement, mentoring, engaging the larger horticultural community in and around Bayview, and achieving pathways to self sufficiency - both for participants and for CiH itself.

CiH aims to be the missing link between the aspirations of Bayview residents for employment and the career-paths greenhouse and community horticultural enterprises have to offer. Careers in Horticulture offer residents inspiration and career training. CiH offers employers solutions and is a resource for trained employees.

We invite the community and interested parties to view an outline of the scope of this ambitious initiative; and appreciate your comments and suggestions.
